Today is a very special day at May Solicitors, as we celebrate our 5 year anniversary. If you are visiting us today, help yourself to a cake – if there are any left! 5 years ago today I was embarking into the unknown, and I am very proud to say that we have grown and now have a wonderful team. (Thanks ladies!)
I would like to say a very personal and heartfelt thank you to everyone who has supported us, clients and friends alike over the last 5 years. Here’s to the next 5!
Changes to Stamp Duty due to come into force on 1st April, 2016 will mean an increase in the tax due for many purchasers buying additional property who already own a residential home. The proposals are due to increase the stamp duty rate by 3% above the current rates, and will be effective on all applicable transactions over £40,000.00. The legislation is due to be published in March, and so until then, we will not know how this will be fully practically implemented. Following the proposals from HMRC, there are also some matters to be decided on as to the effect of the new rules in particular circumstances.
It is a case of ‘watch this space’ until mid-March 2016, when the definitive rules will be published, but if you would like to talk to us about this, please do not hesitate to give us a call.
As Christmas approaches, it gets very busy for us here at May Solicitors to ensure that we get all our clients happily moved into their new homes before the Christmas break.
As we are doing so, we are very conscious of the people who have lost their homes due to the flooding in Cumbria. We are collecting necessary basic items to send up to Cumbria to help those who need assistance.
We are looking to collect any of the following items:
Warm clothing – grouped together and labelled with size and gender
Toiletries especially feminine hygiene products
Christmas gifts – wrapped with similar labelling as the clothing
Milk – UHT or powdered
Sugar (500g bags)
Cartons of fruit juice
Pasta Sauces (tin, jar or packet)
Sponge pudding (tinned)
Tinned Rice Pudding
Tea Bags/Instant Coffee
Instant mashed potato
Tinned Fruit and Vegetables
Tinned beans, tinned spaghetti and tinned ravioli
Ring pulls on cans are helpful, or tin openers can be donated.
This is a personal appeal by Clare and her team and May Solicitors will not benefit from this, but will arrange with the campaign Preston Donations for People Affected by the floods in Cumbria
If you would like to make a donation, please ask in the office or telephone 01772 774523
Phil, our receptionist is undertaking a gruelling challenge in aid of Little Ted’s Room on Saturday 15 August 2015. He is cycling from Royal Preston Hospital to Cumberland Infirmary, over 100 miles through some tough terrain! We are very proud of Phil, and May Solicitors is supporting him all the way. We are sure you will agree this is a worthwhile cause and here is a little more information:
A family friend and his partner recently had to endure what we can only describe as a nightmare, their son, Thomas Edward Davis (TED) was born asleep at 38 weeks and tragically his mother had to give birth whilst listening to other new born babies in the same delivery suite further compounding their anguish and despair.
They are helping to raise £25,000 to install soundproofing in two rooms at the Sharoe Green Unit, Royal Preston Hospital, in order to help others cope with this devastating situation.
Having children ourselves we felt we had to do something to help them reach their goal.
So Phil, being a fairly keen cyclist decided to ride from Royal Preston Hospital to Cumberland Infirmary to raise as much money as he can.
This will cover over 100 miles and will far exceed any distance he has covered before.
The date for the ride is Saturday 15th August.
We have just celebrated our third birthday and cannot believe where the time has gone. In this time we have outgrown our old office, and new people have joined us. Karen is our conveyancing assistant, and those who have dealt with us will know just what an asset she is to May Solicitors and she shares Clare’s commitment and values. Phil is our receptionist, and again is extremely dedicated to working with clients and strives to assist in any way that he can. Martin has joined the team as a conveyancing solicitor. He is extremely experienced and is a huge asset to our team. And of course Clare is still with us! The last 3 years have flown by and Clare and the team would like to thank all of our clients past, present and future for their support.
Not very far away, so if you visit the old office we are actually only a couple of doors down.
We now have our very own custom built office with lots more room for our clients to visit, and for us to work hard in. Feel free to pop in and visit us, and see our new space and see our conveyancing solicitors and team in action.
